Join the ICF Germany English Book Club for our „summer sorbet“ read, The Advice Trap by Michael Bungay Stanier. This book is all about becoming more coach-like, offering insights into how to listen more and talk less. Even for ICF coaches, the book offers gentle but necessary reminders that even the masters among us can struggle to hold back from giving advice. Chosen for its light, fun, yet provocative and challenging nature, reviews praise it as „witty, breezy, conversational,“ „a fast and practical read,“ and „a „wake-up call with real value“.
We will explore practical strategies to resist the urge to provide immediate answers and instead master the art of staying curious just a little bit longer. This book club will help you unlearn expert bias, shift from solving surface-level problems to driving systemic change, and elevate your coaching practice alongside a supportive peer community.
Since we are overlapping with summer vacation season, we are taking a laid-back approach, encouraging discussion on whichever parts of the book you’ve read across both our July (20.07) and/or August (24.08) sessions. Whether you’ve read part, all, or none of the book, we welcome you to join in! As always, we are a community of practice, co-creating our shared learning journey.
